Red Carpet Jewelry At The 2014 Oscars

I don’t normally talk trends when it comes to fashion jewelry. Designing, building, distributing and marketing jewelry takes much longer than it does with other fashion items. But there were a few notable trends on the Oscars red carpet last night. The biggest being the number of statement necklaces worn by high-profile stars.

Gold is obviously always a big part of the jewelry mix during the Oscars but it was more prevalent this year than the past few years. Two things can account for this. First, the work of LoveGold, the fashion jewelry initiative of the World Gold Council was out in front this year during Oscar Week. Second, the dramatic drop in the price of the precious metal in 2013. So gold is not only back on the red carpet it is again working its way into retail stores in the US and other countries.

Diamonds, as always, sparkled, maybe more so than normal as Forevermark, the diamond jewelry brand from De Beers, helped dress many of the celebrities on the red carpet with its high jewelry pieces made primarily of white diamonds on white gold and platinum. The shimmering white of platinum also had other moments Sunday at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
